Hello and happy Monday. It’s really gloomy over here actually (lots of rain and big thunder!), and I wish Nia understood that rainy days = cuddling and watching movies all day long. I’ll work on it ;).
This past weekend was awesome. We headed down to Oakville on Saturday night and just hung out at my grandparents’ house on the lake. It was me, Ty, Nia, my sis Jen, Ty’s sis Carly and her boyfriend, Kenny.
But, before heading there, you know what I did – got my CSA pickup, and now, we’re officially halfway through it.
If you remember last week’s pickup, then you’ll know how many veggies we had to eat through. Well to my (actual) surprise, we almost ate through them all. I was somewhat skeptical that it might be hard, but it’s not. We love veggies…true story! We just had some lettuce, sprouts and carrots leftover (carrots unfortunately because they went super soft). That brings me to what we got for this week!
Our CSA pickup this week:
- 2lb of beans
- 2 quarts of tomatoes
- 2 peppers
- free-for-all eggplant (I grabbed 3)
- 1/2lb lettuce
- 1/2lb pea shoots
- 1/2lb sunflower sprouts
- 4 summer squash
- 2 cucumbers
- 2 onion bunches
- 2 basil plants
- 2 cilantro plants
- unpictured: sunflowers that were free-for-all (I grabbed 4)
I also picked up:
- 1 dinosaur and 1 curly = $6
- 1 bunch of beets = $3.50
- basket of portobellos = $4
- 3L basket of peaches = $6
- 2 pints of raspberries = $7
How we plan to use it:
- stir fries
- tomato basil pasta (again)
- pizza (with fresh basil and veggies)
- kale chips
It definitely seems odd that we’re only through half of the CSA so far, especially since I go back to school NEXT week (GAH!!!). I totally can’t wait to see how the vegetables change as the season changes. I’d be lying if I told you that I wasn’t ready to get into the root vegetables. As much as I am a true summer/warmth girl at heart, I love soups and stews, and fall is really growing on me (and maybe I’ve come to terms with the fact that I let this summer slip by too quickly).
We’ve totally blown the budget with this past weekend, from eating out and stopping at Whole Foods, but I did manage to pick up a few other things to (hopefully) get us through the week.
I also got: jalapeño, sweet potatoes, raw cashews, avocados, tofu, and EVOO.
I think Carly and I will have some ‘low key’ meal nights (tonight and tomorrow) because Tyler’s out of town (and won’t eat 65% of the food I make), so that will definitely be nice to throw together some random stuff. Sometimes glamour ain’t all where it’s at ;).
